This very special retreat is dear to my heart. I grew up on a beautiful island in Canada and was introduced to sweat lodges quite early in life. The sounds of the drumming within the lodge, the deep purifying smell of the the plants being placed on the rocks, and chanting is soulful healing.

The sweat  ceremony takes place over a 4 hours  period where we enter and leave the lodage.  Our yoga practice in the mornings will be gentle yet strong, keeping it simple yet spiritual with meditation, chanting and general preparation to  enter the ceremoney

In the evening we practice Yin in the most restorative sense.

Hearty, nourishing, and healing vegetarian food served. Expect fermentation and treats at both brunch and dinner. Mornings we have tea and fruit before practice.

MORE ABOUT THE SWEAT LODGE AND CEREMONY with LOUISE ALLEN

Louise Allen began training with medicine woman Heather Principe in the Cree Native American Indian tradition eighteen years ago. The Cree medicine lodge is an ancient tradition representing renewal and rebirth. The ceremony honours the feminine while bringing balance between male and female energies.

The lodge ceremony begins in the morning with the lighting of a sacred fire. The fire heats stones (grandfathers) for approximately 1.5 hours. When the grandfathers are hot they are taken inside the lodge and the ceremony begins. Water is sprinkled on the grandfathers inside the lodge which is covered in blankets. There are four elements to a medicine lodge to honour the four directions East, South, West and North and the elements of earth, air, fire and water. The lodge ceremony itself usually lasts for 2 - 2.5 hours.
